Made Up Questions
Q. How did Tuhawke Farm get its name?
A. In a big oak tree over the front paddock live our family of red shouldered
hawks. They watch over the horses day and night. We wanted to name the farm
GoldenRidge after both Holly Ridge Inez (our Lippitt Morgan who passed away
in January 2006) and Golden Eagle. We discovered that the prefix was already
registered at the AMHA. Tuhawke Farm thus seemed a perfect fit.

Q. What is a Morgan?
A. Click here to read about the Morgan breed.
Q. How long do Morgans live?
A. This varies depending on living conditions throughout the animals life.
However, it is not uncommon for a Morgan to live into their 30's under proper
care and environmental conditions.
Q. What is a Lambert Morgan or the Lambert family?
A. THE DEFINITION OF A LAMBERT MORGAN HORSE:
A Morgan horse whose sire line goes directly back to Justin Morgan 1 through
Sherman Morgan 5 and Daniel Lambert 62 and whose ancestors trace back on all
branches of their pedigrees to the foundation horses in Volume One of the
Morgan Horse and Register and none of whose ancestors were registered under
Rule 2.
The foundation stock traced in all
branches of their pedigrees to Morgans registered in Volume I of the Morgan
Horse and Register. This "family" is some of the highest percentage Morgans
available in the world, tracing back to Justin Morgan in fewer generations than
other Morgan families still in existence today. Lamberts build a foundation of genetic
strength to set the characteristics that made the line famous so many generations
ago.
Q. What does the sire line mean?
A. Looking at a pedigree, it is the line of male descendents that extends
across the top of a line, also known as "male-tail." A "break" in the line occurs
when a mating takes place to a descendent not in the ancestral line, which creates
a zigzag pattern on the pedigree along with a dilution of the set genes.
The "Y" chromosome that male horses carry contains a few more genes of the foundation
ancestor, whereas the female "X" chromosome does not. This is said to
be the reason the mail-tale line produces traits of the noted ancestor more
consistently.
Q. How many sire line generations do Golden Eagle and Rainelle trace
back to Sherman Morgan?
A. Eagle traces directly back to Sherman Morgan through Quietude Jubilee
Kingdom and Criterion in only 13 generations.
Criterion appears in the sire line of more that 95 percent of the Lamberts in existence today.
Q. Who is Rainelle?
A. Quietude Rainelle is our second Morgan from
The Quietude Stud in WV. She is a
half sister to Eagle and we are excited to have her as part of our family.
Q. What is a Quietude Lambert Morgan?
A. A Quietude Lambert is a Morgan horse bred and born at The Quietude
Stud in Hillsboro, WV by Susan and Shannon Hanley. The unique Quietude herd
contains practically no non-Morgan blood beyond that from the horses registered
in Volume I. The result is a classically old style Morgan any old-time Vermont
breeder would be proud to own, with all the deep-bodied muscular type of Justin,
and the Lambert color, style, and beauty, with an astounding natural athletic
ability.
